Social Media is not a substitute for physical human connection
It felt strange and surprising, although I know all too well how common and indispensable social media has become. Social media apps have been growing exponentially on app stores such as Google Play and Apple’s App Store with many options to choose from. Many people presently have at least two social media apps on their phones. Social media platforms have become one of the primary engagement options most of us have. Physical engagement was a great deal to our fathers in their time(and I say this because I am a 90s child from Ghana). Listening to stories from my parent, grandparents and other relatives born before the internet age, their experiences were a lot of outdoor and physical activities like By the Fire Side, with Ananse stories, playing Hide and Seek, Pilolo, Oware etc.
But in this 21st century, majority of such engagements have been substituted completely with internet and technology based platforms like Whatsapp, Twitter, Temple Run, Tinder and many more.
I am not a technophobe or against Social Networking because I am a Software Engineer and it will be completely dismissive and insane of me to be against the same thing that I’m passionate about and underpins my profession. I…
